Bella Vista Pizza

We had a visitor last weekend who arrived famished after a long day of travelling. She wanted pizza, and I of course obliged. I asked the guest of honour which pizza shop she'd like to order from, and she couldn't decide between Colonnade and Bella Vista.

"Let's get one from each and compare," she said.

Genius, I thought. Simply genius. And so, a large cheese pizza was ordered from both Colonnade and Bella Vista, and we split up to cover pick-up. The pizzas arrived within minutes of each other and a visual inspection was conducted. I could hardly contain my excitement as I filmed boomerangs of the boxes opening for Instagram. Enough with the messing around, comparison time was nigh.

Now, this blog entry will focus on Bella Vista, since I've already reviewed Colonnade.  However, I should note that a quick update to that review would say definitely order toppings at Colonnade. The wave of cheese without any toppings was almost too much (gasp!), at times thicker than the crust itself. I found myself having to regroup between bites.

But, I digress. This is a review of Bella Vista, which produced a pretty damn decent slice. According to their website, Bella Vista's been around for over 40 years. Nestled in a forgettable strip mall at the corner of Alta Vista and Bank, it's easily missed. They do take-out but also have a full restaurant that I have visited too many times. I found myself a bit tired of their pizza (it's my in-law's go to), but after a long hiatus, was happy to rekindle the fire.

Whoops, we ate half the pizza before I remember to take a picture. Bella Vista is not Lebanese style. It seems to be somewhere in the "other" category. Italian? Classic? Not sure what you'd call it. It's your standard takeout pizza - crust neither thin nor particularly thick. Good amount of cheese without clogging your arteries and/or esophagus. A herbaceous - yes, herbaceous - sauce shines by adding bright flavour.  It was certainly a more balanced pizza compared to its cheese laden competitor.

Overall, this is not a bad slice. At about $23 for a large before tax, it was noticeably smaller than Colonnade's large, which runs $3 more. For those who aren't a fan of heavy pizza, but don't want to compromise with thin crust, this bad boy serves a purpose.

I rate Bella Vista six and a half out of eight slices.

Leave a comment with your opinion, or your thoughts on Bella Vista, and let me know where I should hit up next!

Ciao,
Pizza Lover
