Ridge Rock Brewery

Hi, I’m still here and I’m still eating pizza. I’ve just been focusing on other things in my life recently, and I’ve been revisiting old favourites rather than trying new spots. Speaking of old favourites, Pizza Nerds was one that I had tried again and it has been bumped up to my top five in the city without doubt.

But this isn’t about Pizza Nerds, it’s about Ridge Rock Brewery out in Carp. At 80ish kilometres round trip from my front door, Carp makes the perfect bike trip. Cyclists love it, and often flock to Alice’s Cafe which I have already tried. I was due for a trip out there so we prepped our bikes and arranged to meet friends at a different restaurant: Ridge Rock Brewery.

They’ve got a nice little patio tucked in the back and the building is very cool too - check out the vault door in the basement. We ordered some drinks and the Mediterranean pizza and nachos to share. The pizza arrived first and within a few minutes we had polished it off.

The crust comes dusted in parmesan which seems to be uncommon in town but is a very smart move in my opinion. The crust had a lovely softness to it and the parm made sure it had salt and flavour. Slight complaint: it was dusted well on half the pizza and not so great on the other half.

The cheese was plentiful, and the toppings - feta, peppers, red onion, and Kalamata olives - were sliced small and well distributed on the pizza. One complaint was that the pizza was a little soggy in the middle. The other was that between the feta, olives, and parmesan crust, it was on the salty side. But honestly those are the only downsides I could find. I really did enjoy this pizza all around and would definitely return for it.

We found our nachos weren’t nearly as good as the pizza, and when asking our fellow diners if they liked their meals, we had mixed answers. Therefore if you are going to check it out, a pizza may be your best bet. There are only three on the menu, but by the looks of it based on their Instagram, they may have a rotating special. We didn’t hear anything about any specials so I might be wrong.

All their pizzas are $18 and I’d say that this one is comparable in size to smalls (or “personal pizzas”) around town. It was generous with the toppings so I’d guess it to be pretty similar to other shops in terms of price.

I’ve rated Ridge Rock six and a half out of eight slices.
