Big Rig Brewery

 I recently had a chance to try the pizza at Big Rig Brewery on Iris. I had been there not so long ago but just for drinks and I thought the pizza looked and smelled pretty good. When the opportunity came up again I made sure to seize the opportunity to try a new pie.

I ordered a veggie pizza, hold the mushrooms, because for some reason it was the same price as my first choice: plain cheese. It came with onions, green peppers, tomatoes, and green olives, and showed up fresh out of the oven, piping hot. I would call this a pretty standard pizza in terms of crust thickness. A solid “medium” in terms of thickness and heaviness. 

I dug in once it had cooled enough and found it was pretty underwhelming. Though it was nice and cheesy, it was really lacking flavour and even basic saltiness. The crust was dry, flavourless, and a bit overdone. The cheese had nice stringiness but that’s about all it had going for it. Lastly, the topics were not executed well. Tomato is hard to mess up as are sliced green olives from the jar. However, the giant chunks of raw white onion and green pepper were not appreciated, particularly the former. 

This was next day, I added parmesan and reheated in the oven.

There’s not much more to say about this pizza other than it was not a winner. At $22 for a medium six slice pizza it was definitely hefty enough to stretch two to three meals. 

I’ve rated Big Rig four out of eight slices.
