Score Pizza
It's been a while since I had pizza, so while out and about in the market, I stopped into Score Pizza at the Rideau Centre. The concept here is simple - unlimited toppings for a very reasonable price. It's kind of like the Subway of pizza places, where their employees pass your pizza down the line as you dictate your toppings. Then they bake it in less than 10 minutes and call you up to claim your meal.
I may have spoiled my dinner by indulging in a donut from Mavericks, so I decided to split a regular 12" pizza. Going in, I kind of wanted to get an obscene amount of toppings, just because I could. But I exercised some restraint since I was sharing my pizza, and after I saw how generous they were with the toppings. I'd hate to test the structural limits of the pizza itself as well. Nobody wants a soggy slice.
I ended up with spicy sauce, mozzarella, goat's cheese, white onions, green olives, hot peppers, roasted red peppers, and a pesto drizzle. I enjoyed watching the pizzas cook as I waited, observing the cook rotating the pizza and even use a specialized tool to deflate dough bubbles. It wasn't long before I was ready to dig in.
The crust was thin and crisp, with a black char on the bottom and a slight puff on the outside. I don't think I found any heat in the spicy sauce, but got some from the banana peppers instead. Overall I just found that the pizza lacked flavour which is a bit of a mystery considering the toppings. My favourite part of the pizza was the goat's cheese, but this was the only topping I didn't get much of. I appreciated that they pre-cooked some of the toppings like the onions, which helped mitigate that raw onion taste.
But despite all that, this pizza, which easily fills you up, is only $12.25 plus tax, and is ready in minutes. I had no problem happily consuming my half, and it definitely was not bad pizza! I can see myself going back here and trying a different combination of toppings, since they offered so many.
I rate Score five and a half out of eight slices.
What do you think? Where should I go next? Let me know in the comments!
