Gabriel Pizza
I believe this is my first time ever having Gabriel Pizza. There was one time at a previous job where I stumbled upon a pizza party, and was invited to have a slice. It came from a box with red on it and I remember it being thicc but my gut and vague memories tell me that was Milano, not Gabriel. That's why I believe this was my first time.
It looks like there's at least two dozen Gabriel Pizza in the city so you don't have to go very far to run into one. Some are sit-down restaurants that also serve breakfast (I've heard it's not bad).
Yesterday I lost my Gabriel virginity. For science, obviously. I can't say I expected much; just have a look at your local Gabriel's Google reviews. My closest location has a 3.5 rating, which seems on the lower end, but most sit in the 3-4 star range. I ordered a large two topping for pick-up, and it was ready when I arrived yet seemed fresh out of the oven, still hot when we got home.
If you order the standard crust, expect it to be thicc. You are able to select thin crust when you order, or if you're a crazy person you can also get it even thicker than standard. For some reason they put the mushrooms under the cheese, and the red onions on top. I'm guessing this has to do with the moisture that mushrooms release when they are cooked. Either way, it didn't work out for them. The water released by the mushroom was now underneath the cheese and that meant one bite and the whole thing came sliding off. Perhaps this is just a mushroom thing - I rarely order mushrooms so I might just be uninitiated. The toppings were plentiful, I'll give them that.
Next day note: The extra moisture wasn't really a problem the day after.
The crust was the biggest disappointment. Very thick, and again, under-salted to the point of being tasteless. Why doesn't anyone salt their dough, dammit?! It was doughy and on the outer bits, overcooked and burnt. All around not a good crust which didn't help this pizza gain any extra points.
As for price, this pizza was purchased as part of an awesome deal where you get a large pizza, four 591 mL pops, and four tickets to an Ottawa 67's playoff game for $32. Like stop right there. This is a really, really good deal, so I have no regrets at all. But would I buy Gabriel's again if there were no free tickets involved? Definitely not.
Leave a comment with your opinion, or your thoughts on Gabriel, and let me know where I should hit up next!

I've rated Gabriel Pizza three out of eight slices.
