Art Is In Bakery

I had the pleasure of dining at Art Is In Bakery's pizza night earlier today. Yes, I ate there for dinner tonight and rushed home to write this review while it was still fresh in my head. I had been drooling over their Instagram posts ever since they began their pizza nights. In fact, I'd never been to Art Is In before, though I have had their bread (spoiler: it's good). Their location is a little weird to get to, but the interior has a cool industrial vibe.

I stopped in on a Monday night, which happens to be "Industry Night" where all small pizzas are $15 and all larges are $30. Beer and wine is also $5 each. We decided to split two small pizzas, the Queen Margot, which is essentially a Margherita made with imported Calabrian buffalo mozzarella, and a Green Summer. The Queen Margot was an easy choice for us - as I've said before, it's best to judge a pizza place on its plain pizza - but the Green Summer we were initially hesitant to order. I was worried it was an attempt at a "healthy pizza" with the leafy greens, which put me off a little, but we went for it anyway.

And oh sweet cheesus, am I happy we did. Did I just taste the best pizza in Ottawa? It could be the case. Though the Queen Margot was very much a delicious pizza on its own, the Green Summer stole the show in every way possible. Rather than tomato sauce, the base was a pesto-like concoction, topped with wilted greens, creamy dots of cheese, red chilli flakes, and pink pickled onions. Combined with a crackly crust speckled in sesame seeds and doused in a healthy amount of parmesan, this pizza was packed with flavour and textures that had my taste buds twirling.

The Queen Margot was also a really great Margherita, with a very fresh tasting sauce (or perhaps it was the cherry tomatoes that lent to the tomatoey flavour), Calabrian buffalo mozzarella, and torn up basil spread throughout. They seem to have two Margs on their menu, one which uses non-imported ingredients. I'd be interested to taste that one to see if springing for the Queen Margot is worth it, but on Monday nights they are all the same price so it was an easy decision.

Overall at this point it is easy for me to say this is the best pizza I have tasted in Ottawa. Regular prices for small pizzas range from about $15-$22 but it is 100% worth the price tag. We ordered two smalls and were left with about 1/3 of a pizza for the next day.

I rate Art Is In Bakery eight out of eight slices.

Yep, I went there! Only three posts and I've already given a perfect score. Seriously though I can see myself coming back again and again for this pizza. What do you think? Leave a comment with your thoughts.

Ciao,
Pizza Lover
